Chocolate Cake with Salted Caramel Buttercream
This chocolate cake is pure decadence, topped with a creamy salted caramel buttercream that will make your taste buds dance. And the best part? It’s surprisingly easy to make.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Add the boiling water and stir until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely in the pans.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy.
- Stir in the salted caramel sauce.
- Add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
- Place one cake layer on a plate or cake stand and spread a layer of the frosting on top.
- Top with the second cake layer and spread frosting on top and around the sides of the cake.
- Decorate with additional salted caramel sauce, if desired.
